Veterinary Behaviour Referrals

Partnering with You for Advanced Behavioural Care

Dear Colleagues,

We understand that complex behavioural cases can be exceptionally time-consuming and challenging to manage within a standard general practice consultation framework. Whether you are managing escalating aggression, deep-seated phobias, severe compulsive disorders, or complex multi-pet household conflict, we are here to support both you and your clients.

Dr Tracy Jones focuses on Veterinary Behavioural Medicine, utilising evidence-based neurobiology, diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and force-free behaviour modification protocols. We treat behavioural disorders as true medical conditions requiring clinical pathology evaluation, environmental manipulation, and neural circuit management.

Our Collaborative Care Commitment

  • Shared Care Approach: We strictly manage the behavioural aspects of your patient’s health. For all routine healthcare, vaccination, general surgery, and emergency services, clients are explicitly directed back to your practice.
  • Open Communication: A comprehensive clinical referral letter detailing our diagnostic conclusions, psychopharmacology choices (with mechanism of action, receptor profiles, and washout timelines if applicable), and behaviour plans will be emailed directly to your clinic within 48 hours of consultation.
  • Seamless Transition: If medical rule-outs or follow-up blood profiles (such as pre-medication or steady-state therapeutic monitoring) are required, we will prompt the client to book these diagnostic sessions with your team.

The Referral Process Step-by-Step

  • Step 2: Diagnostic Submission – Email the patient’s complete history logs, lab records (CBC, Biochemistry, Thyroid panels, Urinalysis), and any relevant imaging files to thorndon@nzpetdoctors.co.nz.
